1st Sgt. Amos Tidmore

1SG Amon L. Tidmore joined the US Army on 26 January 1969. He completed Basic, Advanced Individual Training, and Advanced infantry training for Vietnam where he completed a one year tour.  He completed his High School Education in Vietnam while on R & R, (Rest and Recuperation).  After Vietnam he became an Armored Crewman and commanded the M60 series Tank and the new M 1 Tank. He retired from the Army in 1989 with 21 years of active duty service. The same day he left the US Army he started working for St. John’s Military School as a Military Advisor and a JROTC Instructor and later became the Senior Enlisted Instructor for St. John’s.  He left St. John’s Military School after 20 years to come to Flandreau Indian School to be the Senior Army Instructor (JROTC).  He has often been asked why he came to this school and he said that God says that “where much is given much is required” and that he had been given very much.   He is a graduate of Manhattan Christian College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management and Ethics.   He is an Ordained Minister and is the youth Pastor in the local community of Trent. He is 64 years old and likes to work with young people and travel. He is also the coach for the Drill Team and Color Guard.


MSG Chris Van Briesen

MSG Van Briesen was born and raised on a farm in the Brookings area.  He graduated from Brookings High School in 1982.  Prior to graduation he enlisted in the South Dakota Army National Guard in February 1984, and retired from Active Service in 2004.  His highest awards include the Legion of Merit; Meritorious Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal and Army Achievement Medal.  He is married and lives in Sioux Falls and has two grown children.  His daughter is following in her dad's footsteps and joined the Army National Guard.  She is currently at Fort Sam Houston, TX finished her Army Medic Training.
